The toilets and showers are old, with tiles broken, tap handles broken, formica broken around the basins, the taps are green instead of silver, and the ladies has got cobwebs in 1 shower stall that had not been cleaned off while we were there 5 days. I wonder when the last health check was done? The female manager sat checking the speeds of everyone coming and going, also put flower pots and milk crates upside down creating 1 lane in or out of the park. Can you imagine the annoyance when on a long weekend with a full park, many people coming in and out and having to wait for other cars to come through? There are old bbqs interspersed around the park but need a good clean. Some other campers near us, who were young with kids, were very good and kept quiet, but the female manager had a go at

Helina S. Woldekiros 2. In Africa and elsewhere, scholars have demonstrated that early social, political, and economic structures were shaped by salt production, distribution, and long-distance trade in areas where salt was a critical resource. However, despite salt’s significant role in developing these structures, archaeological studies of the salt trade have focused almost exclusively on artifacts and historical text references.
As a result, data on the diverse and complex routes through which this important commodity has traveled and the nature of its transportation are lacking. This paper examines evidence of ancient Aksumite BC AD salt trade and exchange from the lowland Ethiopian deserts to the North Ethiopian and Eritrean highlands, drawing on recent ethnoarchaeological and archaeological fieldwork conducted in the Danakil Desert and Aksumite towns.
